With Arizona's population expected to at least double over the next forty years, transportation planning is an opportunity for Arizonans to come together where personal choices and future lifestyles intersect. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) takes an important step in examining those transportation and community planning choices with the launch of the Arizona Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).
Nearly 18 months ago, a Statewide Transportation Framework planning process, called Building a Quality Arizona (bqAZ) began. Communities across the state were brought together to evaluate 2030 and 2050 projected regional growth patterns and create a vision for Arizona’s Transportation future, available at www.bqAZ.gov. The LRTP builds upon the bqAZ work being completed. The next step in this evolutionary planning process is for the LRTP to identify priorities within available funding, turning vision into reality. Federal and state law requires this LRTP process to be completed by July 1, 2010, and updated every five years. The LRTP provides guidance to ADOT for their five-year construction program, by linking the long-range vision to state transportation investments. To do so, the LRTP will identify transportation investments that Arizona should make over the next 20 years based on available funding. The Plan will include alternate funding options and strategies to ensure maximum flexibility, as funding sources become available. |
